European Hub for Contemporary China (EuroHub4Sino) is a Horizon Europe project funded by the European Union.

EuroHub4Sino respects privacy and is committed to protecting personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when Users visit our website, participate in our project activities, or use our services.

1.      Definitions

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:

  • Account means a unique account created for a user to access our Service or parts of our Service.
  • Consortium is the association of partners (Beyond the Horizon ISSG, Hybrid Core, Institute for Security & Development Policy, Prague University of Economics and Business, Heidelberg University,Jagiellonian University, The University of Warwick, Chatham House) carrying out EuroHub4Sino Project.
  • Data Controller is a legal or natural person, an agency, a public authority, or any other body who, alone or when joined with others, determines the purposes of any personal data and the means of processing it. Beyond the Horizon ISSG is the coordinator of the project and will act as the data controller for the platform (eh4s.eu) on behalf of the consortium.
  • Data Processor is a legal or a natural person, agency, public authority, or any other body who processes personal data on behalf of a data controller. Regarding EuroHub4Sino Services,  both Beyond the Horizon ISSG and Hybrid Core are data processors.
  • Data subject refers to any individual person who can be identified, directly or indirectly, via an identifier such as a name, an ID number, location data, or via factors specific to the person's physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity.
  • Device means any device that can access the Service such as a computer, a cellphone or a digital tablet.
  • Personal Data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
  • Project (referred to as either "the Project", "We", "Us" or "Our" in this Agreement) refers to EuroHub4Sino.
  • Service refers to the Website and the assocaited features therein.
  • Third-party Service refers to any (social network) website through which a User can create an account and log in to use the Service, personalise (like, bookmark) and interact (comment, share) with the Service.
  • Usage Data refers to data collected automatically, either generated by the use of the Service or from the Service infrastructure itself (for example, the duration of a page visit).
  • User means the individual accessing or using the Service, or the company, or other legal entity on behalf of which such individual is accessing or using the Service, as applicable.
  • Website refers to EH4S platform, accessible from (eh4s.eu).

2.      Collecting General Data and Information

Personal Data

While using Our Service, We may ask Users to provide Us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify them. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

  • Email address
  • First name and last name
  • Usage Data

Usage Data

Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service.

Usage Data may include information such as Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that is visited, the time and date of the visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data.

When Users access the Service by or through a mobile device, We may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device, mobile device unique ID, the IP address of the mobile device, mobile operating system, the type of mobile Internet browser used, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data. We may also collect information that User’s browser sends whenever they visit our Service or when they access the Service by or through a mobile device.

Information from Third-Party Sign-In Services

Our website offers the option to create an account and sign in using third-party services, i.e., Apple and Google. By choosing to sign in via third-party services, Users consent to the sharing of their information between EuroHub4Sino and the respective third-party service. We only receive information that is necessary for the sign-in process and do not store third-party service passwords. Users may revoke their consent at any time by changing their preferences on the third-party service or contacting us directly.

When Users choose to sign in through these platforms, we may receive certain profile information from these services, depending on the privacy settings Users have with them. This information may include name, email address, and any other information Users have chosen to make available to facilitate the sign-in process.

We do not control and are not responsible for other uses of User information by these third-party service providers. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies to understand how they collect, use, and share information.

Information from Third-Party Social Media Services

Our website allows Users to share publication links through their Third-party Social Media accounts, i.e., LinkedIn and X (Twitter), with one click.

When Users share content from our website on social media platforms, the information shared, including use of social media to share from our site, is governed by the privacy policies of those platforms. We do not have control over, and are not responsible for, the data handling practices of these third-party platforms. We recommend reviewing their privacy policies to understand their data processing activities and how they may use information shared on their platforms.

Users are responsible for any content they choose to share on social media platforms and for managing the privacy settings of their social media accounts to control how their shares are visible to others. Be aware that sharing content publicly on social media may allow others to view, share, and further distribute such content.

Information from Third-Party Tracking Services

Our website may use tracking technologies to monitor how Users interact with our content, including shares on social media platforms. This data helps us understand user engagement and effectiveness of our content distribution but does not include personal information that directly identifies Users without their consent.

3.      Use of Personal Data

The personal information is used for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain our website and services, including to monitor the usage of our services.
  • To manage User registrations and accounts, allowing them to participate in interactive features of our service (e.g., like, bookmark, comment, share, etc.) when they choose to do so.
  • To communicate with Users, including to provide them with updates on our project, research papers, newsletters, and other information related to our project activities.

4.      Sharing Personal Data

  • We do not sell, trade, or rent users' personal data to others.
  • We do not share personal data with third parties without prior consent of the User unless there is a statutory obligation to pass on the data, or if the transfer serves the aim of criminal prosecution.
  • We may share personal data with consortium partners for the purposes of the project.

Beware when a User registers through a Third-Party Social Media Service, Users’ contacts on the Third-Party Social Media Service may see their name, profile, pictures and description of their activities. Similarly, other Users will be able to view descriptions of their activities, communicate with them and view their profile.

When Users share personal information or otherwise interact in the public areas with other users, e.g. by writing comments to publications, such information may be viewed by all Users and may be publicly distributed outside.

5.      User Responsibility

Users are responsible for any content they choose to share on social media platforms and for managing the privacy settings of their social media accounts to control how their shares are visible to others.

Our Website may contain links to other websites that are not operated by Us. Once clicked, Users will be directed to relevant third party's site. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services. We strongly advise to review the Privacy Policy of every site visited.

User-Generated Content Responsibility

By posting, uploading, or submitting comments, reviews, and other forms of content (collectively, "User Content") on Our Website, Users agree to abide by the guidelines stated below and acknowledge that they are solely responsible for the User Content they submit. Users warrant that they own or have obtained all necessary rights to the User Content they post and that their content does not violate or infringe upon the rights of others, including copyright, privacy, publicity, or any other personal or proprietary rights.

Users agree not to post User Content that:

  • Is unlawful, libellous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, indecent, lewd, suggestive, harassing, threatening, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory, fraudulent, or otherwise objectionable;
  • Promotes racism, bigotry, hatred, or harm against any individual or group;
  • Constitutes unsolicited promotions, political campaigning, advertising, or solicitations;
  • Contains viruses, corrupted data, or other harmful, disruptive, or destructive files.

EuroHub4sino reserves the right, but is not obligated, to review, screen, delete, edit, or move any User Content at our sole discretion, without notice, for any reason, and at any time. The posting of User Content on Our Website does not constitute Our endorsement or support of the views, opinions, or facts expressed in such content.

By submitting User Content on Our Website, Users grant EuroHub4Sino a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, and worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, and display such content in any form, format, or forum now known or hereafter developed.

Users acknowledge and agree that they, not Our Website, are entirely responsible for all User Content that they post, and they agree to indemnify and hold harmless EuroHub4Sino and its partners, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all claims, damages, expenses, and liabilities arising from or related to any User Content they post.

6.      Retention of Personal Data

EuroHub4Sino will retain Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use User Personal Data to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain User data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

EuroHub4Sino will also retain Usage Data for internal analysis purposes. Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when this data is used to strengthen the security or to improve the functionality of Our Service, or We are legally obligated to retain this data for longer time periods.

7.      Data Security

We are committed to ensuring that User information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information We collect online. However, remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

8.      The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU legislation (Regulation 2016/679) on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data. Thanks to GDPR, residents of the EU enjoy certain data protection rights:

  • Right of access by the data subject (Art. 15): The data subject shall have the right to obtain from the controller confirmation as to whether or not personal data concerning him or her are being processed, and, where that is the case, access to the personal data.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16): The data subject shall have the right to obtain from the controller without undue delay the rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning him or her.
  • Right to erasure (‘right to be forgotten’) (Art. 17): The data subject shall have the right to obtain from the controller the erasure of personal data concerning him or her without undue delay and the controller shall have the obligation to erase personal data without undue delay based on the clauses depicted in the article.
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18): The data subject shall have the right to obtain from the controller restriction of processing in the cases indicated in the article.
  • Right to object (Art. 21): The data subject shall have the right to object, on grounds relating to his or her particular situation, at any time to processing of personal data concerning him or her in the cases specified in the article.

To exercise the above-mentioned rights, a request should be sent to EuroHub4Sino via email or contact form (c.f. Contacting Us). Please remember that before exercising the rights, Data Controller will have to make sure that the applicant has the above right, i.e. identify them accordingly.

9.      Changes to This Privacy Policy

EuroHub4Sino reserves the right to update or modify this privacy policy at any time and from time to time without prior notice.

Minor changes or clarifications to our privacy policy will be effective upon posting of the updated policy on our website. We encourage Users to periodically review this page for the latest information on our privacy practices.

For significant changes, amendments, or revisions that materially alter User rights or obligations under this privacy policy, we will make reasonable efforts to notify them. This notification may be through an email to the email address associated with the User account, through a notice on our website, or through other means deemed appropriate to ensure Users are informed of such changes.

Users continued use of our website and services after any changes or revisions to this privacy policy indicates their agreement with the terms of the revised policy.
